In a recent podcast, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) examines the recent fires across Los Angeles that were fueled by dry landscape and forceful winds.
NFPA’s wildfire expert Michele Steinberg discusses the speed of the fires, the response, water challenges, evacuations, and the critical decisions that are integral to assuring that LA is prepared for future wildfires.
In related news, NFPA is also providing information, resources, and interview experts for journalists covering the fires.
According to NFPA, between 2014-2023, wildfires destroyed more than 80,000 structures in the U.S., the majority of which were homes. Record high temperatures, drought conditions, and high winds from severe weather events have been blamed for increased wildfire activity in high-risk areas in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
