The only joint technical committee of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), ISO/IEC JTC 1 has been developing standards that support information and communications technology advancement across industry sectors for more than 30 years. ISO/IEC JTC 1 and its 22 subcommittees have had direct responsibility for the development of over 3,200 published international standards, with hundreds more currently in development.
The U.S. plays a leading role in JTC 1, with ANSI serving as Secretariat and 35 national bodies participating. Another 65 countries serve as observers, and all together, over 4,500 experts from around the world work in collaboration to develop the most effective and relevant ICT standards.
