ANSI Submits Response to FCC Public Notice on Unnecessary Regulatory Burdens

4/11/2025

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has submitted a response to a March 12 Public Notice of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) seeking comments on a new deregulatory initiative. The Public Notice requested input identifying FCC rules, regulations, and guidance documents that impose unnecessary regulatory burdens.

ANSI’s response encourages expanded reliance on voluntary standards and conformity assessment approaches as the Commission revises or withdraws regulations:

“ANSI recommends that the FCC look to certain of its existing regulatory and voluntary programs that leverage private sector partnerships to reduce government costs, increase efficiency, better address marketplace and technological challenges, and lower barriers to market entry. Such programs are adaptable to technology and market developments and can serve as a bridge to increased reliance on private sector self-regulatory actions.”

According to the notice, the new proceeding will assist the FCC in carrying out the policies that President Trump included in recent Executive Orders (EOs), including EO 14192 (“Unleashing Prosperity Through Deregulation”) and EO 14219 (“Ensuring Lawful Governance and Implementing the President’s ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ Deregulatory Initiative”).
