As the COVID pandemic heightened the need for cleaning business services, the importance of certifications also came to light. IICRC has more than 49,000 active certified technicians and more than 6,500 certified firms, with certifications for everything from house cleaning to mold specialists. Last year, IICRC received accreditation from the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) for the IICRC Mold Remediation Specialist (MRS) Certification program.
Vermeulen explained the certification process, and noted that since the pandemic shed a light on cleanliness, certifications provide reassurance that work will be done according to an industry standard. Swift noted that standards also play an important role for job seekers, helping them to identify credentials that support their career goals.
“[Standards] help the general public to not have to figure out [whether something] is a quality credential. If you see that a third-party has gone through and recognizes a certification, you can be much more assured that indeed that credential is going to get you a living wage and a good job,” Swift added.
