Approval of American National
Standards (ANS)

Step 7: Final Submission of Evidence of Procedural Compliance to ANSI

Following the consensus body vote (including any recirculation opportunity) and conclusion of the appeals process (if necessary), if the ANSI-Accredited Standards Developer (ASD) determines that consensus has been achieved in accordance with its ANSI-accredited procedures, the ASD submits evidence of procedural compliance to ANSI via a BSR-9 form. The BSR-9 form acts as a final checklist of items required for submittal to ANSI (via email attachment) for approval of an American National Standard (ANS).

Here’s what you do:

Submit a BSR-9 form (available in Word format only) within one year of the close of the public review period. (You may submit a request for an extension via an online BSR-11 form.)

With the BSR-9 form submission, include documentation that identifies all unresolved objections – from voters or public review commenters – and shows how unresolved objections were handled.

Email the form and all documentation to [email protected] (do not include a copy of the standard).

Here’s what you need to know:

Submittals with no unresolved negative consensus body ballots or public review comments (uncontested cases) may be administratively approved by staff on behalf of the ANSI Board of Standards Review (BSR). All others are reviewed by the ANSI BSR in accordance with its Operating Procedures.

Useful tips

When preparing documentation for BSR review, make it easy to review – for example, add a chronology for complex cases.
