Step 5: Resolution of Votes and Comments (and Recirculation if necessary)

The ANSI-Accredited Standards Developer (ASD) must consider and attempt to resolve all timely and appropriately submitted votes and comments on a draft standard from consensus body members and public review commenters, in accordance with its accredited procedures for standards development.

Here’s what you do:

Attempt to resolve all negative votes and comments received; the mechanisms by which votes and comments are considered vary by ASD based on each ASD's accredited procedures.

Provide a written response to any unresolved negative votes or comments, in accordance with your procedures.

Recirculation: Report any unresolved objections, attempts at resolution, and/or substantive changes to a proposed draft to the consensus body in order to afford all members an opportunity to respond, reaffirm, or change their vote.

Useful tips

If you receive comments that are not related to the proposal under consideration, they must be processed as a new proposal and revisited at an appropriate future date.
