People on the Move

12/21/2023

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The American Petroleum Institute (API) recently named Mason Hamilton as its vice president of economics and research.

Hamilton joins API from the International Energy Forum (IEF), where he served as special assistant to the Secretary General. Prior to IEF, he served as senior advisor in the Office of Oil and Natural Gas at the U.S. Department of Energy. Additionally, Hamilton served as a lead petroleum market analyst for the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

“Mason will be a tremendous asset to our organization and the industry we serve,” said Dustin Meyer, API senior vice president of policy, economics, and regulatory affairs. “His deep understanding of energy markets and ability to inform policy discussions with data-driven insights is recognized across the industry and will be key to advancing our priorities at a critical time for America’s energy future.”

“API and its members are delivering solutions to meet the world’s growing need for affordable and reliable energy, while simultaneously driving innovation in the technologies we need to reduce emissions,” Hamilton said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with API’s talented team to communicate the importance of a strong, viable U.S. oil and natural gas industry.”

The American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) has named Nicole Butler as its next executive vice president and secretary, effective January 1, 2024.

Butler has 23 years of experience from her roles at the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), an ANSI accredited standards development organization. As a senior coordinator/manager of technology and solutions, she provided administrative and project management support to over 30 standards development committees and strategic initiatives. In another role at ATIS, Butler worked as the director of strategic initiatives, during which she continued to expand on her track record of organizational strategy and growth.

Butler will join AWPA at the 2023 Fall technical committee meetings in Denver, and her transition period into the executive vice president position will begin in the fourth quarter of 2023.
