Help Shape Sustainability Standards: Join Virtual TAG to ISO

1/03/2025

ANSI is seeking experts to join a Virtual Technical Advisory Group (VTAG) to contribute to the revision of ISO Guide 82: 2019, Guidelines for addressing sustainability in standards.

ISO Guide 82, prepared by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Management Board (TMB) Sustainability Guidance Drafting Group, provides guidance to standards developers on how to take account of sustainability in the drafting, revision, and updating of ISO standards and similar deliverables. It outlines a methodology that ISO standards developers can use to develop their own approach to addressing sustainability on a subject-specific basis.

The document is intended for use by anyone involved in the development of ISO standards and similar deliverables, aiming to:

  • raise awareness of sustainability issues arising from the application of ISO standards;
  • provide standards developers with a systematic approach to addressing sustainability issues in a coherent and consistent manner, with regard to both new and revised standards, and in a manner related to the objective and scope of the standard being developed; and
  • promote consistency and compatibility, as far as is practical, among standards that directly or indirectly address sustainability.

The ISO TMB approved the revision of ISO Guide 82, and assigned the Secretariat to BSI (the United Kingdom member body to ISO).

Stakeholders can contact Steven Cornish, ANSI’s senior director of international policy and strategy ([email protected]), to indicate their interest in participating in the VTAG. Stakeholders interested in holding a leadership role in the VTAG are requested to respond by January 15.
