What international standards initiatives are underway to address the Metaverse? The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) / International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Joint Technical Committee (JTC) 1 will host an upcoming webinar to share information about relevant ISO and IEC standards and projects that can be applied to the creation and the advancement of the Metaverse.
The webinar is scheduled for June 26, 2023, at 5:00-8:00 p.m. ET. Participation is free; registration is required.
The Metaverse can be defined as a universal, immersive virtual world that is principally facilitated by Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). ISO and the IEC, through their Technical Committees (TCs) and Subcommittees (SCs), have been developing standards for over 20 years that are relevant to implementing Metaverse applications. These include well-established standards for imagery, audio, video, and VR/AR/MR, as well as information technologies for learning, education, and training.
The webinar, intended for all stakeholders interested in learning more about standards and current standardization for the Metaverse, will highlight ongoing relevant standards initiatives, and introduce opportunities for participation. Topics of discussion will include:
