People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.
The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced that Debra Phillips will be its next president and CEO. She will succeed Kevin Cosgriff, who is retiring at the end of 2021 after seven years as head of the organization.
Phillips joins NEMA from the American Petroleum Institute, where she served as senior vice president of global industry services, leading the standard-setting businesses and global operations division. Prior to that, Phillips was vice president of sustainability at the American Chemistry Council. She has also held director and engineering positions in private-sector chemical and manufacturing companies.
“Debra’s leadership and track record of success will not only serve NEMA member companies incredibly well but will also propel the direction and mission of our organization to new heights during a pivotal time for the electroindustry,” said NEMA board chair Annette Clayton. “With an energy landscape that is more sustainable and increasingly more electrified, Debra’s more than 20 years of leadership on sustainability, standards, and globalization in D.C. trade associations will enable the NEMA membership to deliver even more benefits to consumers, businesses, and the U.S. economy overall.”
NCPDP, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has appointed Richard Sage as its new senior vice president, innovation. In this newly created role, Sage will work to ensure that NCPDP standards continue to support interoperability for new technologies, reforms, and advances that align with the organization’s strategic plan. He will also provide leadership in the development and implementation of research necessary to further the organization’s business development, strategic planning, and more.
Prior to joining NCPDP, Sage was vice president of retail solutions at McKesson Corporation, where he led the development and implementation of a strategic roadmap for its retail pharmacy business. He also served as vice president and general manager of Supplylogix, a division of McKesson Corporation. Previously, Sage was CEO and partner at Check-InMD, a health information technology start-up. He has been an active NCPDP member leader, and has served on the organization’s standardization committee as co-chair, as well as co-chair of their Work Group 11 on ePrescribing and Related Transactions.
“This new position is critically important to our organization,” said Lee Ann Stember, president and CEO of NCPDP. “Rick has the unique blend of broad and deep industry experience, demonstrated success in strategic planning and disruptive innovation, product management, business development, leadership skills, and a thorough knowledge of NCPDP. This experience will help him exploit our strengths and bridge the divide between emerging technologies and the real-time interoperability and clinical insights NCPDP provides through its standards and solutions.”
