Strategies for Approaching Standardization and More: ANSI Releases Draft Agenda for Spring Organizational Member Forum

4/12/2024

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released the draft agenda for its spring Organizational Member Forum (OMF) meeting, to be held on Wednesday, May 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Attendance is free for all ANSI OMF members; pre-registration is required. The event will be held at the American Petroleum Institute (API) headquarters in Washington, D.C, with virtual attendance available.

Following introductory remarks by Sharon Stanford, OMF chair, agenda sessions will include:

  • Strategies for Approaching Standardization for New Technologies and Areas

Leaders from standards developing organizations (SDO) will share lessons learned from using new technologies, from industry specific technology (such as hydrogen mobility) to technology that crosses all sectors (such as AI and net-zero objectives). Speakers will include Kraig Conrad, CEO and Contract Management Institute chair at the National Contract Management Association; Laura Brumsey, senior vice president, Compressed Gas Association; and Dan Smith, vice president, technical committee operations at ASTM International. Megan Hayes, vice president, technical services, NEMA, will moderate the session.

  • Private/Public Partnerships: Lessons Learned and Best Practices

In response to the ANSI Board-driven initiative on the Evolving Standards Landscape, ANSI is working to identify best practices from successful Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) across a spectrum of technology sectors. Four of ANSI’s OMF members will showcase one of their successful PPPs. Speakers will represent AAMI, API, ASTM International, and NSF International.

  • Organizational Policies with Regard to AI Considerations

Patricia Griffin, ANSI senior vice president and general counsel, will moderate a discussion with OMF members on their considerations when developing an internal organizational AI policy.

  • Incorporation by Reference Updates

Patricia Griffin and Mary Saunders, ANSI senior vice president, government relations, will provide an overview of recent activities relating to standards incorporated by reference (IBR’d) into federal and state regulations. Among the discussion points, the session will cover recent relevant court cases, possible legislative solutions, and guidance on how SDOs might look at their own current and future business models in light of the changing IBR landscape.

  • Government Update
Mary Saunders will provide an update on ANSI’s government relations activities.
