Collaboration for Cyber Safety: Join the Journey to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) 2.0 Workshop

1/13/2023

Virtual Workshop on February 15

As part of its long-term effort to help organizations effectively manage cybersecurity risk, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will hold a one-day virtual workshop on February 15, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET, to discuss potential updates to its Cybersecurity Framework (CSF). The workshop is intended to help to improve the CSF through engagement with a wide and diverse community of experts, and will cover updates from NIST on CSF 2.0, with virtual panel discussions with professionals in the community.

The Framework allows organizations—regardless of size, degree of cyber risk, or cybersecurity sophistication—to apply the principles and best practices of risk management to improve the security and resilience of critical infrastructure.

NIST’s CSF was released in 2014 as a result of the Executive Order, "Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity." Intended to be a living document that is refined, improved, and evolves over time, the Framework was created through collaboration between industry and government. NIST unveiled CSF 1.1 in April 2018.

To reflect the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape, NIST is planning a new, more significant update to the Framework with CSF 2.0 based on stakeholder feedback throughout its process. Developments will include public webinars and workshops, as well as seeking feedback on at least one CSF 2.0 draft.

The February webinar will build on feedback from the 2022 NIST Cybersecurity Request for Information (RFI) and the first workshop.

NIST notes several items to review before the webinar:
