The IAPMO Group an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member and audited designator, has announced that Woods McRoy has joined the Uniform Evaluation Service (UES) staff as a senior engineer.
Mr. McRoy has more than 40 years of experience in the codes and construction industry. His role in code development organizations began with the Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI), and he remained with the organization as it transformed into the International Code Council (ICC) in 2003. He has also served for more than 10 years on both ASTM International committees associated with cold-formed steel and the AISI Committee on Specifications, and he was involved in the various subcommittees supporting the AISI North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members.
He has a strong background in product evaluation, plan review, code interpretations, and education.
“The addition of Woods to IAPMO UES not only gives us additional resources to better serve our clients, but we also gain a large amount of valuable knowledge and experience to add to our group,” IAPMO UES senior vice president Jerry Carrier said. “IAPMO UES continues to put a premium on hiring staff that have strong backgrounds with industry experience and knowledge of codes.”
The Society for Imaging Science & Technology (IS&T), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that Zeev Zalevsky is the new editor-in-chief of the Journal of Electronic Imaging (JEI), co-published by IS&T and the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). He will assume the position on January 1, succeeding current editor-in-chief Karen Egiazarian.
Mr. Zalevsky is dean of the engineering faculty at Bar-Ilan University and director of the Nano-Photonics Center at the University’s Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (BINA). He is a fellow of IS&T and SPIE, along with other professional societies, and serves on the SPIE conference program committees for Optical Systems Design, Optical Metrology, Defense + Commercial Sensing, and BiOS. Mr. Zalevsky’s research interests include super resolution – the generation and manipulation of light for use in ultra-small applications for high-speed information processing and biological sensing. He has developed many technologies including a next-generation remote biosensor for vital signs, a disposable ultra-thin endoscope, and special optical fibers for communication networks and medical diagnosis.
“Zeev Zalevsky’s energy around imaging and optics was clearly evident throughout the selection process,” said IS&T publications vice president Robin Jenkin. “His awareness of developments in fields beyond his own, combined with experience across both academia and industry, are matched by a desire to improve education and communication within the field. IS&T is delighted to join SPIE in appointing Zeev as editor-in-chief of JEI, where his leadership will make certain the journal continues to serve and inform the international community during this unprecedented period of growth and development of imaging worldwide.”

Guardian Fire Testing Laboratories, accredited by ANAB for ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17020, has announced the retirement of Drew Pearson.
Drew Pearson has been with Guardian Fire Testing Laboratories for over 25 years. He is on the Board of Directors and a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), an ANSI-accredited standards developing organization.
“We truly appreciate Drew’s many contributions to Guardian. It is not an understatement to say without Drew, our company would not be where it is today, “ said Jeff Papke, Controller for Guardian Fire Testing Laboratories. “The entire Guardian family wishes him a happy retirement.”
Drew will be replaced by Laura Jones, who most recently served as the Physical Lab Supervisor for QIMA, an international quality assurance service provider, where she provided oversight of an ISO 17025 certified flammability lab. During her career, Laura has conducted numerous internal audits for laboratory departments including annual audits required by ANAB.
“The board is pleased to have Ms. Jones join the Guardian team as Test Division Supervisor. We are confident her experience and her vision for our Testing Laboratory will help expand our service offerings and create an even better experience for our customers," said Jeff Papke.
