MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Management Systems (MS) launched FSSC 2400, bringing the number of MS programs close to 40. Working with Foundation FSSC, the goal of this scheme is to improve labor relationships, health and safety at work, and work and business ethics, with a management system approach that drives continuous improvement on key social issues. The scheme is applicable in the manufacturing and processing section, in both food and nonfood industries.

ANAB expanded its Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC) mutual recognition arrangement (MRA) status to include ISO/IEC 17029 Validation/Verification (VV), with a sub-scope of ISO 14065, building on more than 15 years of experience in environmental information accreditation.

FORENSICS

Properly controlling property and evidence is a duty of critical importance to the entire criminal justice process, but often falls on local law enforcement to execute. How can they be sure they are properly identifying, tracking, and securing these items, retaining appropriate records, and appropriately monitoring personnel? ANAB launched an accreditation program specifically designed to address these concerns, minimize organizational risk, and support this vital work. ANAB also published Accreditation Requirements for the Management and Operation of Property and Evidence Control Units.

North America Accreditation Forum

ANAB is a founding member of the recently established North America Accreditation Forum (NAAF), a nonprofit organization formed by North American Accreditation Bodies to support regional and global conformity assessment. ANAB is proud to aid in NAAF's vision to promote the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and views on conformity assessment and accreditation in support of the principles of the World Trade Organization and the United States, Mexico, and Canada Free Trade Agreement.

LEADERSHIP THROUGH CHANGE

The standards and conformity assessment community has experienced globalization in successive waves, beginning with standards at the international level, industries operating on a global basis, and then single conformity assessment bodies with services for many markets for globalized industry. Keeping ahead of changes, ANAB developed its leadership team and corporate structure to engage on issues with positions and contributions to meet customers’ needs and stakeholder demands, now and in the future. Our staff—which provide the foundation of our reputation for quality, integrity, and service and of our success—are committed to building a future that provides the highest value for our stakeholders.

Doug Leonard was appointed as executive director of ANAB in November 2022. Leonard provides strategic leadership, assuring the integrity of services, advancing ANAB’s vision and mission, and striving for sustained growth and diversification.

Warren Merkel joined ANAB as vice president, policy, in November 2022, advising the ANAB senior leadership team on the development and implementation of policy positions, goals, and strategies. He previously served as the chief of standards services in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Standards Coordination Office.

Keith Mowry has moved from his role in product certification to a senior position in ANAB business development/training. The move positions him in a key role supporting ANAB stakeholders for schemes, standards, and programs across our accreditation portfolio.

Reinaldo Figueiredo, ANAB vice president, conformity assessment strategy, chairs ISO’s Committee for Conformity Assessment. He conducted ANAB's first annual scheme owner workshop focused on ISO/IEC 17065 program scheme owners, with the objective of establishing a collaborative platform for sharing experiences, information, and best practices.

Digitalization Progress

ANAB is responding to a rapidly changing business environment by expanding its remote assessment services and carrying out a robust digital transformation strategy to benefit its clients and customers.

A newly redesigned website, launched in 2023, creates an engaging new experience for users, providing even quicker and easier access to accreditation and training opportunities.

Annual Event

ANAB held its Annual Assessor Development Conference at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas, in January 2023, hosting 198 assessors representing 13 different countries. Over the 4-day event, ANAB staff prepared 21 separate training sessions and workshops for the assessors to collaborate and exchange knowledge and experiences. Assessment methodologies, criteria, and techniques are calibrated between the assessors and staff to better service our customers and the conformity assessment stakeholders. Alongside the assessor development, ANAB held a series of public training sessions on quality in forensic analysis and general conformity assessment criteria. Our next Assessor Development Week will be held in January 2024 in Aurora, Colorado.
