UL Standards & Engagement Releases Podcast with Standards Leaders Carrie Schmaus and Grace Callahan

3/08/2023

UL Standards & Engagement’s latest Word to the W.I.S.E. podcast episode showcases the importance of having younger voices at the standards development table in order to develop standards that are relevant and sustainable.

The episode, “Equipping the Next Generation of Standards Leaders: A Conversation with Carrie Schmaus, U.S. Department of Energy, and Grace Callahan, UL Standards & Engagement,” highlights why age diversity in standards development is important and explores how emerging professionals in standards engagement have an integral role in shaping the next generation of standards leaders.

In 2022, the U.S. National Committee (USNC) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) selected Callahan as one of four IEC Young Professionals, for which she had the opportunity to participate in the international workshop in San Francisco in conjunction with the 86th IEC General Meeting (GM). Schmaus is a USNC Young Emerging Professionals (YEP) committee chair and was a 2019 recipient of ANSI’s Next Generation Award.

Callahan and Schmaus spoke about how their involvement with the USNC and YEP have helped refine their skills and broaden their respective networks.
