As the U.S. member body to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), ANSI is seeking to identify a new U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) administrator organization for ISO Technical Committee (TC) 154, Processes, data elements and documents in commerce, industry and administration.
Supporting Standardized Data Exchange
The scope of ISO TC 154 includes international standardization and registration of business and administration processes, and supporting data used for information interchange between and within individual organizations. Support for standardization activities in the field of industrial data is also included. The Standardization Administration of China (SAC) currently serves as the secretariat.
Beyond Time Zones: How ISO 8601 is Creating a Universal Language for Date and Time
Among various efforts of ISO TC 154 is the development of the ISO 8601 series, the international standard for representing date and time for interchange. The standard provides a standardized format for representing dates and times that are unambiguous, internationally recognized, and easily interpreted by both humans and computer systems, eliminating uncertainties arising from different date formats, cultural conventions, and time zones that affect global operations. Efforts are currently underway to incorporate amendments to Parts 1 and 2 into the document while addressing additional editorial requirements.
Pioneering Efforts in Traceability with Digital Product Passports (DPPs)
One of the committee’s latest initiatives is to advance a preliminary work item - Digital Product Passport - Part 1: Overview and fundamental principles, which is being developed through ISO TC 154/Joint Working Group (JWG) 9, ISO/UNECE joint working group for information exchange of supply chain aligned to UN/CEFACT semantics.
Supporting the circular economy, DPPs are structured collections of product-related, machine-readable data that share product information across the entire product lifecycle. They are designed to provide industry stakeholders, businesses, public authorities, and consumers with a better understanding of the materials used in a product, including details on ESG performance.
