EPA Seeks Input on Low Embodied Construction Materials Draft Documents

12/19/2024

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking input on four draft technical documents for low embodied construction materials.

The documents are part of the EPA’s newly-renamed Construction Material Opportunities to Reduce Emissions (C-MORE) program, which seeks to support U.S. manufacturers in lowering operating costs, achieving efficiencies, and accessing new markets while helping federal purchasers and other buyers find and buy cleaner, more climate-friendly construction materials.

Manufacturers and others interested in lower embodied carbon construction materials are invited offer feedback on the following draft materials:

Submit input to [email protected].

With these documents and further initiatives, the EPA aims to improve quality of environmental product declarations (EPDs), standardize product-level global warming potential values to be used in definitions of “embodied carbon” throughout the U.S., and develop its label program. Following this period of initial input, the EPA intends to provide formal review and comment opportunities for key documents in 2025.

Learn more: EPA has released additional information about C-MORE, including a schedule of upcoming opportunities for stakeholder engagement; additional materials to support ongoing data quality improvement efforts; and an update on EPD data quality status by material category. Further information and tools will be released in the coming weeks, including details on webinars in early 2025 that will provide an overview of key documents and give stakeholders an additional opportunity to provide input.

Visit the EPA’s C-MORE webpage for more information.
