Reminder: Amplify Your Impact on Standards and Register for the ISO Open Consultation Process

11/06/2024

Register by November 11

Showcase the benefits of standards and make a greater impact: ANSI, the U.S. member body to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), encourages relevant stakeholders to join workshop sessions, as part of the recently launched ISO Open Consultation, a new way to engage in defining ISO’s response to global market expectations. ISO and DIN recently published a new document to provide additional guidance in the process (see update).

ISO Open Consultation is an opportunity for stakeholders around the world to have direct input in the standards development process. The member-driven program helps to identify and prioritize the most critical global challenges where standardization can make a difference.

Knowledge of standardization is not required but helpful for participation; register for the workshops by Monday, December 11. Additional directions to register are accessible via the invitation link.

“ISO Open Consultations are excellent opportunities to showcase standardization and the benefits of standards to a wider audience,” said Sergio Mujica, general secretary, ISO. “They present your national standards body with an opportunity to reach beyond your current sphere of influence and engage with stakeholders and potential experts outside the ISO system: those who are affected by and reliant on international standards, and can offer us a wealth of external perspectives to draw on.”

Mujica noted that participating in one or both Open Consultation topics will be made simple and pragmatic by the leading proposers, with a focus on gathering high-level user stories and general expectations of standardization.

While the style of high-level of participation in Open Consultation requires less stakeholder commitment than technical committees, it offers an effective way to engage in defining ISO’s response to global market expectations.

UPDATE: Following ISO Council approval, the consultation process will focus on two key areas:

  • Resource-efficient software, led by DIN (Germany). Recently, ISO and DIN released a document that provides additional information about this area, including DIN’s overview of the subject of resource-efficient software and the possible outcomes of the project, and the timeline for the stages of the ISO DIN project between November 2024 and May 2025. Additionally, the document details the intention of ISO Open Consultation projects in general.
  • Positioning, navigation and timing services, led by KATS (Republic of Korea)

ANSI encourages its community to share this opportunity with relevant experts who may be outside of ANSI circles. Additional detailed information on Open Consultation is available on ISO Connect.
