U.S.-German Standards Panel to Cover U.S. and European Standards Strategies, Tech and Climate Issues, and More

Join discussions about digital transformation and smart standards, climate change, artificial intelligence, and the U.S. and European standards strategies during the bilateral U.S.-German Standards Panel on April 4-5, 2023. Hosted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), together with the U.S. National Committee (USNC) to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the German Institute for Standardization (DIN), and the German Commission for Electrotechnical, Electronic, and Information Technologies of DIN and VDE (DKE), the event will take place at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, with virtual participation also available.

Sessions are supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, and will include the following topics:

Day 1: April 4, 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. ET

  • Welcome remarks, Joe Bhatia (ANSI), Christopher Winterhalter (DIN), Michael Teigeler (DKE)
  • Presentation of U.S.-German Standards Panel Agenda, Joe Tretler (ANSI)

Panel 1 (hybrid) on European Standardization Strategy and the U.S. Standardization Strategy:

  • Welcome and introduction, moderated by Joe Tretler (ANSI)
  • Introduction of the U.S. Standardization Strategy, Mary Saunders (ANSI)
  • Introduction of the European Standardization Strategy and German plans for its implementation, Gerhild Roth (BMWK)
  • Panel discussion, featuring Dr. Thomas Zielke (BMWK), Mr. Michael O’ Donovan (USTR, NN—German industry representative), Dr. Ajit Jillavenkatesa (ANSI)
  • Q&A and summary of discussion

Panel 2 (hybrid) on Digital transformation of standards development and smart standards:
