Strengthening Standards Education: NIST Announces Standards Curricula Development Program

4/21/2022

Submit applications by June 14

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) encourages eligible stakeholders to apply to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 2022 Standards Services Curricula Development Cooperative Agreement Program. The program awards funding to eligible applicants to develop undergraduate- and/or graduate-level curricula to incorporate documentary standards, standards development, and standardization information and content into seminars, modules, courses, and learning resources at U.S. colleges and universities.

NIST will award funding for cooperative agreements for curricula development for students, so they develop a strong understanding and appreciation for the role of standards in the domestic and global marketplace.

Accredited institutions of higher education in the U.S. and its territories are eligible to apply. Applicants may work individually or include proposed sub-awards or contracts with other U.S. colleges and universities, non-profits, and commercial organizations. NIST will evaluate applicants on their ability to meet criteria in four major categories: technical project approach and project execution plan; communication plan; qualifications and experience of key personnel; and resource availability.

Since the program’s inception in 2012, NIST has received 214 applications and has made 41 awards totaling $2.57 million. Awardees have developed curricula that cover a wide range of topics, including, but not limited to, various science and engineering disciplines, business, public policy, law, and multidisciplinary approaches. In fiscal year 2022, NIST may fund up to eight projects of $75,000 to $100,000 each, for up to 24 months.

Applications must be submitted through grants.gov no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.
