Young Professionals Sought for Prominent 2021 International Electrotechnology Workshop Competition

5/27/2021

Submission Deadline: July 16, 2021

The U.S. National Committee (USNC) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has opened nominations for outstanding emerging electrotechnology professionals to participate in an in-depth, five-day IEC Young Professionals 2021 Workshop, scheduled for October 3-7, 2021, in conjunction with the 85th IEC General Meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Nominations via the USNC Young Professionals Workshop Nomination Form are due by July 16, 2021.

Due to the continued impacts of the pandemic and the uncertainty surrounding travel, the workshop—extended to five days for the first time—will be in a hybrid format. Recipients who choose to attend in person will receive financial support for airfare by USNC and IEC will support five nights of accommodations.

Who is Eligible for the Competition?

The Young Professionals Workshop, in its twelfth year, aims to bolster the future of technology transfer, and long-term national involvement in the international standardization arena. The USNC is seeking outstanding candidates who are involved with standardization or conformity assessment from a technical or managerial perspective within their organization and who have demonstrated great ongoing promise.

This program is intended for individuals who are in the early years of their professional career, post-university. A selection panel comprised of a pool of USNC officers, policy committee members, standing committee members, former U.S. Young Professional award recipients and a pool of USNC Honorary Life Members will assess the candidates.

The USNC will select up to four young professionals to represent the United States at the 2021 workshop in Dubai, UAE as a hybrid in-person and virtual event in tandem with the 2021 IEC General Meeting. Industry, the government, academic bodies, consumer organizations, or any other member of the U.S. standards and conformance community that uses, benefits from, or contributes to the IEC's work in electrotechnical standardization and conformity assessment may nominate candidates.

Selected candidates will attend a dedicated workshop alongside recipients from other nations where they will learn more about the IEC, standardization strategies, and conformity assessment. They will also have the opportunity to attend technical meetings where standards are developed, observe a meeting of the IEC Standardization Management Board and the Conformity Assessment Board, benefit from the guidance of a mentor, visit local industry, and more. Winners will be notified by August 2021.

Nominations can be submitted to Adelana Gladstein ([email protected]) no later than July 16, 2021. See expectations of USNC Young Professional participants and guidelines for a successful application.
