People on the Move

12/11/2020

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

AAMI, a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), announced that its president and CEO Rob Jensen has retired.

Mr. Jensen has led AAMI since 2016, guiding transitions and advancements as the organization strategically changed their internal culture to focus on data-driven decision making, comprehensive strategic and operational planning, and financial and data integrity. During his tenure, AAMI opened its training and meeting center, the AAMI Center for Excellence, and created a fellowship program.

“Rob has been a pleasure to work with and has taken AAMI to new heights,” said Steve Yelton, chair of the AAMI Board of Directors. “We can’t thank him enough for his leadership, his efforts to forge new strategic initiatives, and his keen ability to innovate and modernize AAMI’s infrastructure and programs.”

Steve Campbell, AAMI’s chief operating officer, will serve as the organization’s acting president and CEO.

“Steve offers great stability to AAMI. He has outstanding personal skills to work collaboratively with members and staff and has the vision and practical mindset to tackle challenges and seize on opportunities,” said Mr. Yelton. “Working with the Management Team and Board, AAMI is in great hands to move forward and to continue to grow and serve the healthcare community.”

The Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has appointed Marshall Brennan as its new scientific director. In this role, Mr. Brennan will provide strategic leadership for knowledge content and delivery of scientific topics relevant to the society. He will also oversee associated programs and services, including two technical journals, as well as educational programming and content.

Mr. Brennan joins SLAS from the American Chemical Society (ACS), where he was the senior product manager of new product innovation. There, he founded and launched ChemRxiv, a preprint repository for chemistry. Previously, he was the associate editor for Nature Chemistry, managing the peer review and publication process for journal submissions. Mr. Brennan is on the steering committee for the UCLA Applied Chemistry Advance Degree Programs, and is a Technical Advisory Board member for the Applied Chemistry MSc program. He was awarded the American Chemical Society’s Catalyst Award in 2018, and nominated for Forbes “30 Under 30” list.

“I’m truly honored to be able to join SLAS in its mission to provide education, information, and professional development to the large and thriving community of researchers and lab automation developers," said Mr. Brennan. "This is such an important moment in time for the growth of the field and I am eager to find new ways to accelerate its advances and support its practitioners.”
