The Edison Electric Institute has published a list of tips and resources to help people prepare for extreme weather events and other emergencies that can lead to extended power outages.

Proactive preparation can make it much easier to handle an emergency if one occurs. EEI advises that people become familiar with evacuation routes, develop an emergency plan that addresses any special medical needs, and update contact information with their local electric company. The Institute also compiled links to resources that support readiness, including information on emergency outage kits, a podcast episode about hurricane and wildfire season, guidance from the National Hurricane Survival Initiative, and more.
