Movers and Shakers highlights the career advancements and accomplishments of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.
Amanda Benedict, vice president of sterilization at the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), has been awarded the prestigious title of SES Fellow by the Society for Standardization Professionals (SES).
The award, to be presented at the 2025 SES Annual Conference, is in recognition of Benedict’s exceptional professional achievements and notable contributions to the field of standardization. Benedict has supported AAMI’s core mission of promoting the safe and effective use of medical technology for years, specializing in standards that apply to sterilization, sterility assurance, and sterile processing.
Benedict serves on the ANSI Board of Directors, its Executive Committee, and as chair of the ANSI ISO Council.
Among her achievements and contributions to SES, Benedict has served as chair of the Conference Program Committee and on the Board of Directors. She has written for the SES Journal, developed and delivered workshops, and presented at the SES Conference—representing AAMI standards development on occasion. Benedict currently serves as chair of the SES Certification Committee. In 2020, she received the SES-CSA Lorne K. Wagner Award, which recognizes an SES member who has made an outstanding contribution to SES.
“It was through SES connections that I found my way to AAMI when my previous employer shuttered its SDO operations in 2015,” Benedict said. “AAMI offered a whole new world of opportunities to contribute to standardization, but that’s a story for another time.”
The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) recently announced that Margaret Boatner will join the organization as its new vice president of national security policy. In her new role, she will lead AIA’s national security division.
Most recently, Boatner served as the deputy assistant secretary of the Army for strategy and acquisition reform, where she was the Army’s lead executive for the design and implementation of acquisition policy affecting research and development, and production of warfighting capabilities. In that role, she orchestrated Army-wide initiatives to overhaul policy on intellectual property, software development and acquisition, and industrial base resilience; she also led a broad effort to streamline and simplify the acquisition process.
Previously, she served as the acting deputy assistant secretary of the Army for strategy and acquisition reform, principal director within the office of the DASA(SAR); director of initiatives for the Army’s deputy acquisition executive; and as special assistant to the Army’s senior contracting executive.
“Margaret’s expertise in acquisition policy, procurement, and intellectual property will be a valuable asset to our members and the entire aerospace and defense industry, supporting our mission of enabling and accelerating the delivery of world-class equipment to our warfighters,” said AIA president and CEO Eric Fanning.
