A new episode of ASME’s TechCast podcast highlights a unique university course that engages students in machine design through a popular video game.
The University of Maryland is offering a course on machine design and CAD software based on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Professor Ryan Sochol shares how the course leverages the advanced physics and engineering featured in the game to impart important lessons to his students. Sochol expands on how people playing the game may not realize that some of the capabilities developed through gameplay translate to CAD software use and other engineering skills essential for mechanical engineers.
