The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) and WellOwner.org have announced that Protect Your Groundwater Day will take place on Wednesday, September 4. The annual event raises awareness about the importance of proper maintenance and testing of water wells, and is intended to encourage nationwide participation in the protection of groundwater.
Did you know that more than 15.9 million water wells for all purposes serve the United States? In light of the Protect Your Groundwater Day campaign, NGWA encourages annual inspections of private water systems by certified water well contractors to assure systems are operating to produce safe and healthy water. Additionally, Wellowner.org, which is operated by NGWA, offers private well owners tip sheets on water well maintenance and a “How to Find a Contractor” page that allows the public to find certified water well contractors in their area.
“Protect Your Groundwater Day is an opportunity for us to educate and empower well owners to take action in preserving their water wells,” says NGWA CEO Terry S. Morse. “Promoting proper maintenance and testing, we can ensure the long-term viability of groundwater resources.”
