The PLASTICS Industry Association (PLASTICS) has released a new fact sheet illustrating how plastics are integral to global food systems—from farm to table.
The informational sheet reveals how farmers use plastic products to cultivate affordable and water-efficient crops year-round, showcasing how plastic food packaging is lighter to transport and uses less energy during production (versus alternative materials). PLASTICS also reveals that up to 40 percent less fuel is used to transport drinks packaged in plastic bottles compared to glass bottles. Furthermore, plastics benefits consumers, too: using plastic offers significant cost savings (vs. using glass, for example).
