ASME Releases Podcast on What Engineering Students Need to Know to Succeed

4/05/2023

What do engineering students need to know to thrive in their career? ASME’s latest podcast highlights the career skills that these students need to enter the workforce—and what proactive steps they can take to stay there for the long run.

“There’s no doubt that technical expertise is essential for engineering students looking for their first job or for early career engineers looking to take the next step on their careers, but getting the job and being successful requires more than that,” said John Kosowatz, senior editor of ASME’s Mechanical Engineering Magazine and host of the podcast.

Guest expert Matt Ishler, associate director of career counseling at Penn State University, has worked with students for more than 20 years. He talks about how engineering students can develop and learn how to blend the soft skills with the technical. He notes the need to stay proactive in areas of interest as a strategy to succeed.
