IREC Releases New Paper on Grid Mapping Tool for Clean Energy Technologies

10/27/2021

The Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) has published a paper discussing a grid mapping tool that helps utilities and states integrate clean energy technologies on the electric grid.

Hosting capacity analysis (HCA) is an advanced grid transparency tool first introduced in 2015. It provides an assessment of the ability of the electric grid to host additional distributed energy resources, like solar and energy storage, without costly upgrades. As HCAs are growing in popularity across many states, IREC developed the paper to provide key lessons on the technology and help readers understand issues and decisions that should be considered as a public-facing HCA is developed.
