Dr. Charles Romine is the acting director at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), effective January 1, 2025. He succeeds Dr. Laurie Locascio, who began her position as ANSI’s president and CEO this month.
Prior to this position, Dr. Romine was the associate director for laboratory programs, working to advance trust in measurement and technology in service to the nation. In this role, he provided direction and operational guidance for all of NIST's scientific and technical laboratory programs, and served as principal deputy to the Undersecretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director, among other duties.
Previously, Dr. Romine was the director of the Information Technology Laboratory, one of six research laboratories within NIST. In that role, he oversaw a research program that cultivates trust in information technology and metrology by developing and disseminating standards, measurements, and testing for interoperability, security, usability, and reliability of information systems. He has a Ph.D. in applied mathematics and a B.A. in mathematics from the University of Virginia.
The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) recently named Gregg Woodcock as its executive director.
Previously, Woodcock worked at Burlington Industries in the knitted fabrics division and for Hanesbrands Inc. (including predecessors Sara Lee Knit Products and National Textiles). He was recently the senior manager of product quality and safety at Hanesbrands Inc.
Woodcock has been a long-time member and active participant in AATCC research committees. Currently, he serves as the chairman to RA88, the committee on Home Laundering Technology. In addition to being heavily involved in the research committees, Woodcock has been a speaker at numerous AATCC events, both in person and virtually. He is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science as well as the Institute of Textile Technology.
