ANSI and CNCA Meet for Second U.S.-China Virtual Meeting on Accreditation and Certification

6/24/2022

On Wednesday June 15, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) hosted its second virtual meeting with the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CNCA), following the last meeting held in December 2021. These meetings were held in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in August 2021, which calls for the two organizations to meet regularly to share insights on the latest conformity assessment reforms and developments, and exchange questions posed by relevant stakeholders.

The meeting was led by Leslie McDermott, senior director of international development at ANSI as well as Hao Xin, Director, Division of International Cooperation, Department of Certification and Liu Changzhou, Director, Division of Institutions, Department of Certification from the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR). A total of 45 participants joined the meeting from the U.S. and China, including ANSI member executives from companies, industry associations, conformity assessment bodies, and others.

The dialogue addressed:

  • The current status of the development of accreditation and certifications regulations in China
  • The potential regulatory changes in conformity assessment that may impact foreign businesses in China and products in the Chinese markets
  • The role of CNCA in the certification of cross-border processing of personal information and the development of certification systems for cross-border flow of personal information
  • The coordination of the conformity assessment mechanism and market access requirements of various government authorities and states in the U.S. with a potential unified information channel

The event concluded with recommendations from both ANSI and CNCA to continue to pursue the MOU by strengthening the relationship and communication between the two organizations. Both sides agreed to provide more follow-up information to the relevant organizations in their respective industries to support business from both countries.
