Professional Safety, the flagship journal of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), has announced its article-of-the-year winners for 2023, recognizing seven experts from the occupational safety and health profession who produced exceptional content for the publication.

ASSP recognizes the following winners:

• First place: “Are My Workers Competent in EHS? Competency-Based Training to Improve Learning” (December 2023), by Lori Schroth, Eric St. Pierre, and Brandon Hody

   

• Second place: “Prevention Through Ergonomics: Integrating Human Factors Into a Prevention Through Design Approach” (June 2023), by Bruce Lyon and Georgi Popov

   

• Third place: Tie between “Emotional Intelligence: A Crucial Human Dynamic for OSH” (December) by E. Scott Geller and “Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication: Six Principles for OSH Professionals” by Matt Law

“Selecting the year’s top articles was no easy task given the number of outstanding contributions we consistently receive,” said James Junkin, chair of the Editorial Review Board. “Our talented authors possess the knowledge and experience it takes to share industry best practices that are game-changers in advancing workplace safety and health.”

ASSP reports that it is seeking additional submissions for its publication, which publishes monthly peer-reviewed articles and focuses on safety and health issues and advice to better protect workers.
