The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) will host on a webcast on generative AI, with insights from an AI expert.

“Generative AI in Media: Who Will Win, Who Will Lose” will cover what generative artificial intelligence (AI) is, what it can and cannot do, which companies are using it to build meaningful tools, and what it means for those working in content creation.

“The release of ChatGPT last year has turned Generative AI into this year’s unexpected obsession,” SMPTE notes. “Amidst the deafening hype, the technology is interesting in that it promises to accelerate and augment some of the media industry’s workflows. But it’s still early, and AI as a field is still fuzzy, experimental, and plagued by fantasy to make robust predictions.”
