GIA Joins Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 for Sustainability

11/02/2022

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has joined the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030, a global movement for stakeholders in the jewelry and watch industry to accelerate positive impact in the areas of building climate resilience, preserving resources, and fostering inclusiveness.

GIA will work with the initiative to develop environmental, sustainability, and governance (ESG) content to include in its education programs, seeking to inform the next generation of leaders in the industry on ways to advance sustainability within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development goals.

“Supporting WJI 2030 will build on GIA’s many existing sustainability initiatives,” said Johanna Levy, GIA’s vice president of ESG programs. “Our next steps are to carefully document our footprint and set science-based targets to reduce that footprint.”
