The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will now allow hearing aids to be sold over-the-counter without a doctor’s exam or prescription. According to the FDA, almost 30 million Americans could benefit from hearing aid use, and this ruling is expected to lower the cost and increase the accessibility of hearing aids.
The effective date for this ruling is 60 days following publication in the Federal Register. More information about this ruling is available in the FDA’s press release.
