IEEE Article Explores the Future of Telemedicine and Wearables

5/10/2022

IEEE recently published an article delving into the use of wearables and IoT devices to bolster the capabilities of telemedicine services, supporting the delivery of continuous, remote monitoring by healthcare professionals.

One critical element of telemedince access is quality broadband connectivity, so the modernization of digital infrastructures that support 5G is key. Wearable technology already provides useful data at the population level, such as smartphone apps that track contacts and predict hot-spots for virus transmission; in the future, patient data may be used on an individual level to assist in the detection of patterns that indicate concerns. Other possibilities include advance IoT telemedicine solutions that can assist in completing basic medical procedures from a distance, based on the real-time data that they receive.
