The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute (SAAMI) has collaborated with the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to develop an educational brochure for shippers of ammunition and components.
The document, “The Facts on Small Arms-related HAZMAT,” provides guidance to support safe and legal shipping of small arms ammunition and components by small distributors, retailers, and individuals. It offers information on determining what items are considered hazardous materials, what “EX Approvals” are and how they are used, shipping using the “Limited Quantity” exemption, and more.
