The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) seeks comments on a proposed new technical committee within the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) focusing on reference materials. ANSI is the U.S. member body to ISO.
For a number of years, ISO's policy development committee, ISO REMCO, has developed a series of ISO Guides for Reference Materials. Recently, the ISO/Technical Management Board (TMB) noted that most, if not all of the ISO REMCO guides should be issued as ISO standards rather than ISO guides by the nature of their content and intended user community.
Therefore, the ISO/TMB has proposed a new ISO Technical Committee (TC), Reference Materials, which is essentially the conversion of ISO REMCO into a TC, with the following scope statement:
Standardization in the competent production and use of reference materials, including the concepts, terms and definitions related to reference materials.
All interested U.S. parties are invited to review the proposal, which features related existing work and relevant affected stakeholders.
Submit comments to Steven Cornish, ANSI senior director of international policy and strategy, at [email protected], by close of business on Friday, July 17, 2020.
Based on the input received from U.S. stakeholders, a recommended ANSI position and any comments will be developed and presented to the ANSI ISO Council for approval before the ISO voting deadline of September 26, 2020.
