The American Welding Society (AWS), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced that Gary Konarska II is its new executive director and CEO. Mr. Konarska assumed the position on April 6, 2020, succeeding Ray Shook. Mr. Shook, who was AWS's executive director for 15 years, will remain as executive director emeritus for an interim period to facilitate the transition.
Mr. Konarska has 20 years of experience in the welding and cutting equipment industry, most recently serving as vice president of global automation for Lincoln Electric Holdings. In this role, he was responsible for 13 automation sites around the world, creating business systems to drive metrics and continuous improvement. He also worked for The Lincoln Electric Company (Asia Pacific) PTE in Singapore, serving as managing director for Southeast Asia, South Korea, and Taiwan. Prior to that, Mr. Konarska was based in Shanghai as director of business development.
"We are very excited to welcome Gary to the American Welding Society taking on the role of executive director and CEO. Gary brings an exceptional combination of industry knowledge, energy, and proven leadership that make him the ideal leader for AWS. We're confident that Gary will continue to advance the AWS mission and strive to connect welding communities around the world," said Robert W. Roth, AWS president.
The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), an ANSI member and audited designator, has appointed Jerry Carrier as senior vice president of Uniform Evaluation Services (UES) and the Institute of Building Technology (IBT). In this newly created position, Mr. Carrier will oversee UES operations and the building products test lab at The IAPMO Group World Headquarters in Ontario, California.
Previously, Mr. Carrier was the director of research and development for Glen-Gary Corp. He has more than 15 years of experience in strategic and technical/business leadership, and more than three decades of experience in advising owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and masons on design, detailing, and installation to ensure code compliance, durability, and performance. Mr. Carrier has sat on many ASTM committees for more than two decades, currently serving on the executive committee of C15 as a fellow.
"Jerry has a tremendous amount of experience in the building product industry and has an acute understanding of all facets of the business," said IAPMO CEO Dave Viola. "With a strong educational foundation, a keen understanding of the needs of manufacturers, and his many years serving in leadership roles related to code compliance, product testing, and standards development, I'm confident that Jerry will be successful in his new position."
