ASTM Committee E60 on Sustainability to Host Workshop on Decarbonization: A Gap Analysis of LCA Standards for Industry

9/29/2023

ASTM International’s Committee E60 on Sustainability, with co-sponsor National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), will host a workshop on October 10-11 to identify ways in which the committee can support emerging efforts towards decarbonization goals that rely on the use of life cycle assessment and analysis (LCA).

The workshop will bring together ASTM, federal government stakeholders, and other experts to discuss the current state of LCA and carbon standards, and identify gaps. Objectives include identifying:

  • Gaps in the use of LCA for carbon foot-printings
  • Needs for more and better life cycle data
  • Requirements to move “Beyond the Gate” life cycle assessments
  • Opportunities to support more consistency and comparability across product category rules

ASTM’s committee also seeks feedback on its survey in advance of the workshop, for guidance on how to better evaluate and develop carbon footprints. Register for the virtual workshop.
