The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) international policy department has released the first English version of its new ANSI in China Newsletter, a resource for updates on technical activities, policy decisions, trade matters, and other information of interest to ANSI members operating in or interacting with China. The debut edition is complimentary and available to all interested stakeholders in the standardization community, and can be accessed online here.
The reform of China's standardization system has been underway for several years, and ANSI's international policy department will continue to monitor China's reform and update members accordingly through the new publication, which is available in two versions and will be published quarterly. The first is written in Mandarin Chinese with content targeted toward a China-based audience of both ANSI members and partner organizations. Past issues are available here. The second is written in English with content targeted toward a U.S.-based audience, and future editions will be exclusive to ANSI members only.

In addition to reporting standards-related activities in China, ANSI has a direct and growing role in fostering greater U.S.-China cooperation in the areas of standardization and conformity assessment. As highlighted in June as part of the ANSI China Program, ANSI president and CEO S. Joe Bhatia met with several top Chinese officials in Beijing to strategize on strengthening these areas and to discuss developments related to the standardization reform process underway in the country.
Mr. Bhatia and other ANSI leadership meet regularly with Chinese officials in order to maintain the relationships that make member initiatives possible. Earlier this summer, Mr. Bhatia was also a keynote speaker at the Sino-U.S. Workshop on Electric Vehicle Standardization, held on June 9 as part of the U.S.-China Standards and Conformance Cooperation Program (SCCP) [see related article]. As contractor for Phase III of the U.S.-China SCCP, ANSI will organize 20 workshops in China on standards-related issues.
